As required by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, all mattresses must meet a rigorous standard to reduce the severity of fires. Companies have used everything from fire retardant chemicals to blends of natural fibers woven into a protective layer around the mattress. 

Purple is proud of the innovation that went into the Restore Hybrid and Rejuvenate Luxe builds, including a new and approved flame-retardant protocol that does not utilize harmful, toxic chemicals or fiberglass material. As of 2024, we’ve also continued to innovate our PurpleFlex, The Purple Mattress and Purple Plus. The flame-retardant protocol does not include fiberglass.  

The fire-retardant layer is built into the fire sock which is under the mattress cover.
