While a flat foundation mirrors the look of a traditional box spring, their inner components differ. A flat foundation is composed of wood or metal slats, whereas a box spring contains springs.
A flat foundation can be paired with our patented GelFlex® Grid, as well as foam, hybrid or latex mattresses. A box spring is only compatible with innerspring mattresses.
Both serve the purpose of providing height, support, and a flat surface to rest a mattress on top of within a bed frame, but a box spring does not provide sufficient support for Purple mattresses.
